Feeling Stuck?
Demi Tebow on How to Transform Your Waiting Season
Demi Tebow has spent much of her life in the spotlight. But behind the glitz and glamour of pageantry and fame, Demi has also navigated seasons of uncertainty and waiting—just like you. Instead of letting these moments define her, she discovered a powerful truth: sometimes, your purpose is found not in what you’re waiting for, but in how you serve others along the way.
Demi Tebow is an entrepreneur, author of the book “A Crown that Lasts,” speaker, and advocate known for her deep Christian faith. Together, she and her husband, Tim Tebow support special needs advocacy, including the worldwide “Night to Shine” event, which celebrates individuals with special needs.
Demi shared with us in a candid conversation how her faith transformed her perspective on waiting seasons and helped her discover the significance of serving others during life’s hardest moments.
“It Felt Like a Wasted Season”
At one point in her journey, Demi found herself in a place many of us know well: waiting for the next step in life, unsure of where she was headed. After passing on her Miss Universe crown, she felt stuck. “It felt like such a wasted season. It just felt like time was ticking, and nothing good was happening,” she recalled.
Like many of us, Demi felt the pressure to know exactly what’s next; it weighed heavily on her. She shared, “I pretended to be my own assistant. I created a separate email account just to divert people from asking me the ‘what’s next’ question because I felt like such a failure for not having that all figured out at 23 years old.”
Waiting is an active process.
The Shift from Wasted to Waiting
Through her trust in God, she began to realize that the time she spent waiting wasn’t wasted at all. Instead, she saw it as a time of preparation, growth, and trust. “It wasn’t a wasted season, it was a waiting season,” she explained.
During this time, Demi came to understand a critical truth: waiting is an active process. “As believers, we are co-laborers with God. He always shows up; He always does His job, but we are also called to show up and do our part,” she said.
This new perspective shifted Demi’s thinking—recognizing that while she couldn’t control the outcome, she could control how she used her time during the waiting.
A New Focus on Others
One of the most practical ways Demi found purpose in her waiting season was through serving others. “On days that were hard for me, days that I felt lonely, I would go and serve someone,” Demi shared. Whether it was volunteering at a soup kitchen, helping a nonprofit, or even going on mission trips, acts of service took the focus off of herself and her own struggles.
When you serve others, you shift your perspective.
Serving others allowed Demi to step outside of her own challenges and realize the impact she could make in someone else’s life. “Maybe you’re waiting for your breakthrough, but perhaps someone else is waiting on you to show up for them,” she said. She began to recognize that her time wasn’t wasted—it was filled with opportunities to make a difference.
Demi’s advice for you? “Remove the pressure off of yourself by focusing on someone else.” By helping others, you can find purpose and fulfillment, even when you feel stuck in your own life.
Serving during Uncertainty
The beautiful thing about service is that it doesn’t have to be grand or out of reach. Demi’s own acts of service during her waiting season weren’t about making headlines or doing something extraordinary. They were about being faithful where she was, with what she had.
You don’t have to wait until you’ve figured everything out before you can make an impact. Serving others in small, meaningful ways can be transformative, both for the people you help and for you. In fact, it’s often through service that you gain the clarity and purpose you’re searching for.
The next time you find yourself in a waiting season, consider how you can serve others, even in small ways. You can find significance in service, trusting that God is working through every moment—even in the wait.
More on this topic is available in Demi’s recently released book, “A Crown that Lasts: You Are Not Your Label.”
