How important is alone time with God?
Ben Fuller shares Morning Devotions
Christian music artist Ben Fuller joins us for a conversation where he shared how his daily practice of seeking God’s presence has become a cornerstone of his faith journey.
We asked Ben to tell us about a time when he felt the palpable presence of God. “Probably when I’m alone, to be honest, in the mornings,” Ben begins. “Every morning, there’s always some time. That’s my time. My alone time with the Lord.” The time has become essential for Ben, offering him a moment of peace and connection with God before the busyness of life takes over the day.
Despite his dedication, Ben admits that maintaining this practice consistently can be challenging. “I’m guilty of not making enough time to be in the Word,” he confesses. Life can get hectic, and finding time to read the Bible and pray isn’t always easy. Yet, Ben emphasizes the importance of even a small effort, whether it’s reading a sentence, a paragraph, or an entire chapter.
During these quiet moments, Ben says, “He never fails to speak to me in those moments. And in those moments, I tangibly feel the presence of God.” This feeling can manifest in physical sensations, such as chills or the sensation of a hand on his shoulder, which Ben interprets as God’s touch. “I get chills; I feel His hand on my shoulder. I feel that He’s smiling. I feel that He’s proud that I even took the step to open that Book and to read.”
For Ben, the Bible is more than just a book; it’s a powerful tool in his spiritual arsenal. “I don’t leave home without it. Now I take the Word with me everywhere. I have to, because that’s the only thing that can make the devil flee.” Carrying the Bible with him serves as a constant reminder of God’s presence and protection throughout his day. Expressing his gratitude, Ben says, “I know [it’s] by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony; that’s what we’ve got. So I’m just grateful that He’s allowing me to talk about it.”
Making even a small effort to connect with God daily has a powerful impact on our lives.
As you navigate the ongoing challenges in your own life, we hope Ben’s story encourages you to find your own moments of peace and connection with God.
Take a moment each day to open your Bible, spend time in prayer, and feel the presence of God in your life.
