Just Sing to Me

When God Calls You Beyond What You Feel Ready For

What do you do when God calls you into a moment that takes your breath away—and the only thing standing between you and the stage is everything you don’t feel ready for? Megan Woods has. “I can’t believe I’m here,” she says. “Like, God, why would you even—how are you even allowing me to do this?”

The thread was always there. Megan says, “When I look back at my life, I see it in everything. I had amazing, supportive parents growing up, and they would take me to every single restaurant gig, or my mom would push me to audition for things, and I would sing at every talent show. I did theater as a kid, so I see so many moments where God was really preparing me musically.”

And the preparation went deeper than performance. “I’ve always loved God, but I didn’t have a real relationship until I was 18. So, I think God just had to allow me to go through some things to really strengthen and deepen my relationship with him.”

Ten Years in Three

That deepening accelerated in ways Megan didn’t see coming. “In the last three years, I feel like I’ve grown like ten years. When God’s calling you to something, He really will equip you even when you don’t feel like you’re qualified—because God will use anybody. But I’ve seen just in the last few years, He’s just grown me so much, putting me in situations that are uncomfortable, forcing me to rely on Him for strength. And so it’s just been amazing. God’s really grown my relationship with him. And I’ve just been forced to really trust him like never before.”

For someone who grew up shy, the places God has taken her have required something she had to learn to give. “Just seeing how God’s put me out of my comfort zone, and just really put me in situations that have been more challenging for me, has really grown me. And I’ve just had to be obedient—just really trusting him and just allowing him to take over, especially with bigger shows or speaking to more people and ministering to people. But, I have moments where I can’t believe I’m here. Like, God, why would you even—how are you even allowing me to do this?”

Backstage

One of those moments came recently. Megan waited backstage at a music awards show, about to perform in front of a room full of artists.

“I was just standing on the stage behind the curtain, and I just kept thinking to myself, How am I literally singing in front of so many artists that have inspired me as a little girl.” And then, in the middle of it all, God spoke.

“I just remember looking up at the audience, and God literally spoke to me and was like— ‘Just sing to me. Just sing right to me.’ And I started getting so emotional. It’s in those moments where God just really comes through. And when He calls you to something—He has you. He’s going to provide. He’s going to give you everything you need. And you just have to completely put your hands up, and just surrender it, and just let Him do what He needs to do, because it’s really not even what we’re doing. It’s what He’s doing through us—so we can rest in that.”

The Unqualified

Megan encourages, “If you’re feeling unqualified, just remember how God used Moses. There are so many moments in my life where I’ve just seen God use me in these ways where I can’t even explain. It’s only by the grace of God and what He’s doing through me. It’s nothing we could do. So if you’re feeling like you’re unqualified—God has the history of using the unqualified. So He’s going to do exactly what He wants to do through you for His purpose.”

God didn’t wait for Megan to feel ready. He just asked her to show up—and then He showed up through her. He’ll do the same for you.
