Laughter is the Best Medicine!
I have to be honest and say that I was shocked and a little sad when I saw that Tim Conway had passed away. I remember when I saw his famous “Dentist” sketch with Harvey Korman for the first time, I laughed so hard that I had trouble breathing. Remembering that made me start to think about laughter and what the Bible says about it.
The first Scripture I was brought to is in Psalm 126:2 which says “Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, ‘The LORD has done great things for them.'”. Another verse I found was Proverbs 17:22 where it says “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones”. Wow! A cheerful heart is pretty powerful! And there’s even scientific studies that prove this very scripture!
Laughter, according to Forbes, produces endorphins which are our feel-good chemicals in our brain that help us when we feel pain. Isn’t that interesting? We know that God designed humans to have we needed for our lives and laughter was a part of that. I don’t know about you, but I can’t help but chuckle thinking about how God was so kind that He wanted us to be able to laugh and feel good about it.
Maybe you haven’t had much to laugh about lately. Life’s not always easy and I can understand that. But I hope this has helped you to remember just how much God loves you every single day. Laughter is His gift to you, after all. So if you have been having trouble with finding something to smile or laugh about, there’s an audio clip down below that’s just for you from us and Tim Conway. Enjoy and have a great weekend!
