Mike Kankelfritz and Friends
Join Kankelfritz every morning and start your day with your favorite Christian music, encouraging conversation and fun! In addition to his quirky, pastoral outlook on life, Kankelfritz is a devoted husband and dad that you’ll feel like you’ve known for years. Here’s what he says about his role as morning show host:
“There is huge power in how we start each day. I love helping someone begin their day with laughter, positive thoughts, and songs that help put our focus on God, who wants to give us new mercies each morning!”
About Mike Kankelfritz
Kankelfritz has heard every possible pronunciation of his name. And they’re mostly wrong. But at least he can spot a telemarketer a mile away! “Is Mr. Kan-Ke, Kanker, uhhhh Kinkle-zits there?” Most definitely not!
Lots of people wonder if it’s his real name, and it is. Once a name he disliked, he’s grown to love it. It’s a one-of-a-kind name for a one-of-a-kind radio show host. Kankelfritz has more than 28 years of experience, and he got his start on country, rock and light rock stations before following God’s lead into Christian radio. He’s served as morning show co-host on national networks and major markets like Houston and Tulsa. Now he brings his laughter and authenticity to Family Life Radio listeners.
He, his wife Becky and their two children live in Tucson, and the desert is a far cry from his youth spent in Seattle and more recently their time in Indiana.
About Mysti Jordan
I originally hail from the Lone Star State, so please don’t be surprised if a “y’all” or “fixin’ to” slips out. Those are ingrained in Texans from birth and are very difficult to remove from our vocabulary.
I’ve been in radio since 1995 when I switched majors from music to Radio/TV because of a guy in that department that was a dead-ringer for Joey McIntyre from New Kids on the Block. (True story!) I worked in everything from country to Top 40 until 2012 when God called me into Christian radio, and I’ve never looked back.
Things didn’t work out with Joey 2.0, but that’s okay because God had other plans for me! I am married to a wonderful man named Jason who, for some reason, puts up with me even after more than a decade of being married to me. We don’t have any children, but we do collect pets like it’s our full-time job. We hope to foster to adopt at some point, and we’d love to run our own animal rescue that doubles as a place to not only find animals a forever home, but also provides ministry to kids in the foster care system as they learn the different hardships the animals have overcome to find their way to a new life of freedom.
I have struggled with mental health issues my entire life, and I’m a firm believer that it’s okay to not be okay, and it’s more than okay to ask for help.
By the way, if you enjoy reading, I’d love to have you be a part of the official Kankelfritz & Friends Facebook book club group. Every time we read a new book, the author who wrote it leads the discussion posts. Just look for “Mysti’s Book Nook” on Facebook! You can find the official podcast of the same name anywhere you get your podcasts for interviews with your favorite authors!
Mysti is available for speaking engagements to share her testimonies involving mental health and forgiveness. Feel free to email her at mjordan@flc.org.
Thanks for spending your mornings with Family Life Radio!
About Sally Barton
My parents provided a foundation of faith throughout my childhood. That faith came alive when a friend invited me to a college Bible study. This is where I met Jesus as my Savior and a tall blonde, handsome young man. He asked, “Do you want to go out together?”
My immediate answer, “I do!”
Later he would ask, “Do you want to get married?”
My, “I do” to that one has led to many years of joy. Our daughter and son quickly followed. Now, we’ve happily added a son-in-love and a daughter-in-love and six grandchildren!
Rog and I love adventuring and exploring the back trails of Arizona. Though we grew up in the city we now love living down a country road in a rural setting – pet goats and a chicken coop may be in our future!
Persistent pain was ever present throughout my childhood. Eventually the problem was detected, operated on and at 15 years old I woke from surgery pain free for the first time in my life. From that experience I have great compassion for those who are living with chronic pain. Believing and holding to the promise of 2 Corinthians 4: 17 “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”
Radio has been a vital connection point for me especially as a young wife and mom needing Christian companionship. Family Life Radio was there for me, listening to Dr. Randy Carlson on his daily show, “Parent Talk” was my lifeline to a healthy marriage and parenting success. To my great joy, I was offered the opportunity to help produce “Parent Talk” which is now “Intentional Living.” That was the beginning of my radio career which led to spokesperson for the launch of “The Presidential Prayer Team” and then managing a local radio station and now, full circle, back to Family Life Radio in my current role as a member of “Kankelfritz and Friends.” Every moment in media has been about connection and delivering God’s message of hope and love to a troubled world.
