Remembering Shannyn

Shannyn Caldwell

In Memoriam

Shannyn Caldwell

   … her laughter.

   … her smile.

   … her authenticity.

… her tenacity, especially in her faith.

   … her warrior spirit.

Those are the pictures we see in our minds when we remember our beautiful, Shannyn Caldwell. She is a friend—a friend of Jesus, and a friend to all of us.

Shannyn holds many places in our hearts, all at once sometimes. She is a mother to Alexandra and Liam, a sister, our beloved radio host, an author, and a powerful woman with unrelenting faith. Shannyn, ever ready to share Jesus, touched millions of lives for Christ through her genuine warmth and love for others.

A Voice of Hope on Family Life Radio

Many came to know and love Shannyn through her presence on the airwaves. For nearly 15 years, she served as one of the most uplifting voices on Family Life Radio (FLR). Listeners first came to know her as one half of the national morning show “Peter and Shannyn in the Morning,” where her contagious joy and authenticity resonated nationwide. Every weekday morning, she partnered with co-host Peter Brooks to bring great music and encouraging messages to early risers, sharing laughter, prayers, and real-life conversations.

Shannyn’s genuine on-air style made everyone feel like a personal friend. She often said, “I have always loved radio because it feels like I’m just ‘hanging out with one person’ and the introvert in me is looking forward to being just one on one with my friend, the listener, during the midday show!”

Over the years, she wore many hats: co-hosting the morning show, managing social media, and representing the ministry at various outreach events. She eventually moved from mornings to hosting the midday program, sharing her bright and bubbly conversation into hearts and homes, and always with a laser focus on Jesus. Longtime fans were delighted to hear their good friend Shannyn in this new slot, and new listeners quickly felt connected to her and the faith she shared each day.

Shannyn was never afraid to be real about life’s struggles on-air, approaching each topic with honesty, empathy, and unshakable faith. Callers would often share how a timely word from Shannyn or a prayer she offered over the radio helped them persevere through their own storms.

When asked why she loved working in Christian radio, Shannyn replied, “The death and resurrection of Jesus is the most important thing that has happened in the history of mankind. Talking about it is the most important thing I can do with my life. So, to have the chance to share Him daily with thousands of people…. Well, that’s what gets me out of bed each day.”

She remembered people’s names and stories, and made them feel like family. Many of her colleagues often mention how her laughter filled the halls and how her earnest prayers for them or others set the tone for true ministry.

Tribute to Shannyn

Author, Counselor, and Ambassador of Healing

Outside of radio, Shannyn expanded her reach as an author, speaker, and holistic health advocate. She developed an entire “Healing Season” series of books, devotionals, and video courses designed to guide others from pain to healing. These resources grew out of Shannyn’s heartfelt desire for people to experience wholeness in Christ.

Shannyn’s passion for wellness extended to physical health as well. Ever the learner, she pursued studies in natural health and eventually became a certified Traditional Naturopathic Doctor (T.N.D.), blending her knowledge of nutrition and medicine with her ministry. She was a firm believer that caring for the body and soul went hand-in-hand.

She also co-hosted “Survivor Stories with Shannyn and Sam,” a podcast where she and Sam Kelly interviewed people who had overcome tremendous hardships through God’s grace. Each episode offered powerful testimonies of healing and hope, echoing Shannyn’s core message that no one is beyond the reach of God’s love.

Courage and Faith in Adversity

In the last chapter of her life, Shannyn faced perhaps her greatest trial, a battle with aggressive cancer, and she did so with the same transparency, faith, and fighting spirit that defined her. Upon diagnosis in early 2025, Shannyn was told the cancer had already advanced to its late stage.

True to form, Shannyn faced cancer head-on and heart-first. She did not hide her condition. She invited her community into her journey, openly sharing updates on air and online about her diagnosis and treatment. Listeners across the nation joined Family Life Radio in an outpouring of prayer and support for the woman who had encouraged them for so many years. Shannyn believed in being real about the struggle while also declaring her unwavering trust in God’s goodness.

Shannyn’s steady refrain was one example of God’s faithfulness even in the valley of shadow. She often quoted scriptures like Psalm 118:17 “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord”–rallying both herself and others to speak life and hope over every setback.

Family Life Radio’s team members and listeners alike stood firmly with Shannyn. She frequently expressed her gratitude for these prayers and affirmations. She truly believed that whether or not physical healing came, God was faithful and was using her story for His glory. Even as her body grew weaker, Shannyn’s faith grew stronger. She remained, as ever, a conduit of God’s light in the darkness of illness.

As we honor Shannyn’s memory, we celebrate a legacy that reaches far beyond what our words can capture. We are grateful for the miracle of her life and the time we had with her. Though we mourn the loss of her warm voice and radiant smile here on earth, we know she is now with the Savior she loved so much, fully healed and whole.

Shannyn Caldwell will be deeply missed by her Family Life Radio family, her church community, and listeners across the nation. She leaves for us a legacy of faith that will continue to inspire all who had the blessing of knowing her. In our grief, we also remember Shannyn’s own encouragement to “praise Him in the storm.”

Thank you, Shannyn, for sharing your journey with us. We will keep spreading that joy and hope you shared with us until we meet again.
