Serve Like Jesus into December
How to Make Room for Thanksgiving Beyond the Holidays
Thanksgiving brings out something beautiful in us. We remember what matters. We slow down just enough to see the needs around us—and so many of us respond with open hands and open hearts.
Gratitude naturally makes space for compassion.
And maybe, as the calendar flips to December, there’s a quiet part of you wondering… How do I keep that going?
A Heart That Keeps Reaching
Jesus lived with a heart that noticed others. He served people in ordinary moments—on quiet walks, in crowded streets, during simple meals. It didn’t matter the day or the season, compassion contiually flow from His life. “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45 ESV).

When we choose to consistently show up with kindness, even as the pace of the world speeds up, we stay close to the Father. And we begin to reflect the heart of Christ—not just through the holidays, but in the quiet days in between.
Serving Like Jesus in the Everyday
Jesus let compassion interrupt His journey in the day-to-day. Scripture gives us glimpses of how Jesus served in deeply personal ways:
- He washed His disciples’ feet (John 13:3–5).
Before facing the cross, Jesus knelt down and washed the dirt from His friends’ feet—knowing they’d soon abandon Him. He served them with humility and love, giving us a picture of how love bows low to lift others up.
- He healed a blind man on the road near Jericho (Luke 18:35–43).
A man cried out for mercy, and Jesus stopped when He heard him—even in the middle of a noisy crowd. He noticed the one no one else did and gave him sight.
- He fed thousands with a borrowed lunch (John 6:5–13).
When the crowd was hungry, Jesus took five loaves and two fish—offered by a boy—and turned it into more than enough. He met the need with abundance, using what someone else was willing to give.
- He noticed the woman who touched His robe (Mark 5:25–34).
In the middle of a crowd, Jesus stopped for a woman who had suffered for twelve years. She reached for healing in silence, but Jesus turned, called her “daughter,” and gave her peace.

Each experience unscheduled, became quiet, powerful acts of love in the flow of ordinary life.
Jesus showed us how to carry a servant’s heart everywhere.
Your December Challenge
Here’s a simple way to stay intentional this month:
Choose three small acts of service each week leading up to Christmas. Feel free to involve your family and friends, your small group, or just follow the Spirit’s nudges. No act is too small to matter.
Here are a few ideas:
- Leave a thank-you card and gift card for your mail carrier or delivery driver.
- Deliver homemade bread or cookies to a neighbor who’s had a hard year.
- Call someone who might be grieving this Christmas and simply listen.
- Collect gloves or socks for a local outreach.
- Write a short note of appreciation to someone who’s been faithfully serving others in some way.

Each moment becomes a reflection of Jesus. Each one makes room for peace to fill the atmosphere of where you are.
Make Room for Wonder
Intentional acts of service create space for something deeper. It keeps your heart open,a and moves your focus to the people God is placing in your path.
“And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father” (Colossians 3:17 NLT)
Serving this December simply brings more purpose. And it prepares you for the quiet wonder of Christ’s presence.
