The Story Behind “Worship Through It”
A Song of Faith from Tasha Layton
Some songs are written from inspiration. Others come from experience. Tasha Layton’s “Worship Through It” carries both—but it’s grounded in something deeper: love, loss, and a faith that stands even when the outcome doesn’t look the way you hoped.
“We wrote it the day after our friend Jonathan got his cancer diagnosis,” Tasha shared in a recent interview. “We sent it to him right away.”
Jonathan had been a close friend for years. The news was devastating—but what came out of that moment was a song that would speak not only to him, but to thousands of others walking through difficult seasons. Tasha described the writing process as “holding the weight of grief” while still believing for healing.
Tasha described that writing session as deeply emotional and spiritually layered.
“We were holding that weight of grief and also believing in a miracle-working God,” she said.
That tension—between mourning the diagnosis and still believing God was able—became the heart of the song. Tasha shared, “This is what the doctors say—but I also know God is able. And we have to entrust the outcome to Him.”
Although Jonathan later passed away, for Tasha, the song didn’t lose its purpose—it expanded. What began as a song of hope became a song of presence. Of worship. Of trust.
“The miracle came—just not the way that we thought,” Tasha said. “And I am worshiping through the grief. I’m worshiping in the valley right now.”
She often returns to Psalm 34:1, where Scripture says, “I will bless the Lord at all times.” For Tasha, that verse isn’t a reminder of duty—it’s a lifeline of perspective.
“Not just the mountaintop,” she said. “Not just when you’re getting a ‘yes.’ That verse says ‘all times.’ And I believe that’s where the real transformation happens.”
That’s the heartbeat behind “Worship Through It.” It’s not a song for perfect moments—it’s a song for real life. For doctor’s offices. For gravesides. For empty kitchens and weary hearts.
