When Faith is Tested
Scott Cash on experiencing God’s presence in the dark
Scott Cash of We the Kingdom talked to us about one of the most terrifying experiences of his life—almost losing his newborn twins. He shared how the fear of losing them brought him to a place of complete vulnerability, but it was in that vulnerability that God’s presence became undeniable.
Faith isn’t always about the mountaintop moments. Often, it’s in the darkest valleys where you experience God’s presence most. For We the Kingdom, their personal stories of encountering God in times of struggle show faith can be strengthened when life feels hardest. Through their music, they share not only their victories but also the intimate moments where they found God in the dark.
“My wife and I almost lost our twins when they were born three months early. And I’ve never experienced the presence of God like I did during that season of wondering whether I would lose what was most precious to me,” Scott shared. “I was wrecked emotionally, but God’s comfort was so real. He met me in the deepest pain I’ve ever known.”
Scott’s testimony powerfully reminds you even in your darkest moments, God is there, offering His comfort and grace. The Bible speaks to this truth in Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (NIV). When you are broken and hurting, God draws near. His presence is not dependent on your circumstances, but on His unwavering love for you.
“[God] met me in the deepest pain I’ve ever known.”
The band’s music reflects an honest portrayal of the highs and lows of life. It’s easy to worship God when everything is going well, but the real challenge comes when you’re walking through difficulty. Songs like “Holy Water” and “Don’t Tread on Me” remind us that God’s power is made perfect in our weaknesses.
Scott said, “I knew that no matter what happened with them, whether they were survived or not, I knew that He was with me, and I knew that He was going to be with me through whatever trauma happened. 04;07;48;00 – 04;08;11;19
God isn’t just present when life is good. He meets you in the darkness, offering hope and comfort when you need it most.
Scott continued, “And it was just it was palpable. I mean, I was like, this is the most I’ve ever believed in God’s realness and his love.”
It’s often in those very moments of feeling lost that God shows up in unexpected ways. As the band’s stories show, the moments of greatest fear or uncertainty can become the places where you encounter God’s love and presence most clearly.
Faith isn’t a straight line; it’s a journey that includes both light and dark seasons.
Faith as a Journey
Stories shared by We the Kingdom reflect a faith that is real, raw, and evolving. What matters most is that in every season, God is there, guiding you and holding you through it all.
Their music invites you to be honest with God about your own struggles. Worship doesn’t require perfection—it requires a heart that is willing to seek God, even in the middle of pain. Just like Scott’s story, your story might include moments where you feel like you’re losing control. But God is with you in those moments, offering peace that surpasses understanding.
When life feels darkest, remember that God’s presence is never far away.
Even in the hardest moments, God is working. Whether you’re on the mountaintop or in the valley, His love is constant, and His comfort is real. As you reflect on your own journey, take courage knowing God meets you right where you are—even in the dark.
