Jordan St. Cyr on the Healing Power of Storytelling

Contemporary Christian music artist, Jordan St. Cyr, known for his heartfelt songs that address themes of hope, faith, and perseverance talks about how his music comes most often from personal experiences and stories of others, creating a deep connection with his audience.

“Since the beginning of my journey, it was testimony that was imparted to me that really changed my life,” Jordan began. Jordan elaborates on how the concept of storytelling has shaped his spiritual life and his career.

When people share their journeys with us, it has a unique ability to touch hearts and change lives, much like how his life was transformed by the stories shared with him.

Nathan’s Story

Jordan recounts the story of a man in desperate need of a miracle. “It was this story of a man named Nathan who…did not have the resources to support his family,” he recalls. Nathan’s experience, and the way God provided for him in his time of need, inspired Jordan to write “Fires.”

Nathan’s story is a poignant example of faithful perseverance. Despite facing overwhelming odds, Nathan trusted in God’s timing and provision, and his story became an anchor of hope for Jordan and many others. “To make a long story short, God came through in His own timing and provided for Nathan when he needed it. And so that’s where his song, ‘Fires’ came from.”

Personal Trials

Just six months after writing “Fires,” Jordan faced his own trial. “My family and I were about to walk through our fire with our little girl, who was born with a rare brain condition,” he shares.

Jordan believes that God’s Spirit questioned him, asking if he truly believed in the faithfulness he sang about. “I really believe God’s Spirit begged the question of me, ‘Am I still faithful? Am I just as good as you talked about in the song you wrote for me?’ And so testimony is everything.”

Jordan’s transparency about his struggles adds depth to his music, making it relatable to listeners who may be going through their own fires. His journey through his daughter’s health issues taught him that faith is not just about the good times, but about trusting God in the fire. His experience reinforced his belief in the power of testimony and the importance of sharing our stories.

The Healing Power of Shared Stories

Jordan emphasizes that pain should not be kept inside. “I think when it comes down to it, the pain that we experience is not meant to live inside us. So it has to come out,” he says. Sharing stories, he believes, is a path to healing, not just for yourself but for others as well.

From listening to self-help books to immersing himself in biographies and memoirs expresses the value Jordan places on lived experiences. “Now I just listen to people’s stories, biographies, memoirs. And really, just when you see people live it, and we see people walk through it, I think there’s a greater lesson to be learned.”

For Jordan, sharing his story has been a source of healing. “In that healing process, the way God works, He works in multiplication. So if I’m being healed by sharing my testimony, others will experience that.”

When we open up about our struggles and triumphs, it creates a ripple effect that encourages others to do the same.

Encouraging Others to Share

Jordan’s music aims to inspire others to open up about their own journeys. “It almost gives them permission to  share their story, knowing that whatever it is, even if you think it’s insignificant, it’s worth sharing because there’s so much power in it.” He believes that every story, no matter how small it may seem, holds significant power and can inspire others.
