A Firm Place to Stand
Ty from Albuquerque had the kind of credentials that opened doors. But suddenly, this professional golfer with a master’s degree in business found himself homeless in 2021.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
— Psalm 40:2 NIV
Psalm 40:2 vividly describes what that kind of season feels like: the slimy pit, the mud and mire, the complete inability to find footing on your own.
But like the psalmist, Ty found it also to be the season God reaches into. Still in the pit, Ty met God right in the middle of the losing, before anything was restored, before the path forward was clear.
And Ty felt himself being lifted.
God reaches into the pit, lifts you out, and places you on solid ground.
Today Ty is an ordained minister serving in leadership with Heaven’s Door Ministries. He works in outreach, supporting people struggling with addiction and encouraging those coming out of prison. God reshaped Ty’s life and given him back in service to others.
Ty shared that Family Life Radio has been a constant source of encouragement throughout his journey, reminding him daily that God calls every one of us to show up for the people around us.
Whatever has stripped away the credentials, the plans, the footing you counted on, let God’s promise in Psalm 40:2 give you the firm ground you are looking for. You don’t have to find your way out. Invite God to reach in.
Today’s One Thing
Read Psalm 40:1–3 today and sit with verse 2. Ask God to show you the firm ground He is building beneath you right now.
